ABOUT THE CHALLENGE

Celebrate the UAE’s natural heritage with Husaak through the Caracal Challenge – a special 15 km excursion honoring Emirates Wildlife Society – WWF’s 15 year of local conservation work.   Step back in time, and use only the moon and stars to navigate the Abu Dhabi desert, and learn about the beauty that exist in our own backyard.  At the same time, your participation will help make a difference long after the event.  We at Husaak have committed to contributing your registration fees to support Emirate Wildlife Society-WWF’s work in the UAE, ensuring a future in which humans live in harmony with nature.

Husaak is contributing all net profits from this event to Emirates Wildlife Society – WWF’s terrestrial conservation program, working to protect land-based animals and ecosystems across the UAE and Gulf Region.

Friday November 11th & Saturday November 12th 2016

Objectives:

  1. Raise funds through the desert walk for terrestrial conservation work in the region for EWS-WWF.

  2. Make GCC nationals and residents aware of the beauty of the Abu Dhabi desert and how to conserve it.

Challenge Highlights:

  1. Meeting & Assembly point will be Khalifa Park in Abu Dhabi
  2. The Challenge will take place in Razeen desert near Arabian night village (Part of Al Khatim)
  3. The Challenge is a trek of about 15 KM through sand dunes.
  4. The challenge will start during the day light and will continue through the night.
  5. This challenged is planned on multiple stages to accommodate all fitness levels and families.   
  6. If you are planning to do the full 15 KM challenge, you will have to have a high level of endurance and be in good shape.  
  7. IMPORTANT: There are 3 exit points,  people can be transported back to camp if they cant continue the challenge. However, the first 2.5 KM are mandatory and there is no going back as stations will close after certain time (Refer to stations schedule when you sign up)

    • First Exit point at (2.5 KM)

    • Second exit point at (6.5 KM)

    • Third exit point at after (9 KM)   

  8. There will be a guide station every 1 KM.
  9. The trail will be marked along the way.
  10. Health & Safety measures is taken into account and necessary support would be present on site. 
  11. Minimum age is 8 as long as accompanied by parent. 18+ can sign up on their own. 
  12. Challenge will start at 4 PM and end at Midnight.
  13. Dinner buffet & entertainment in the Arabian Night Village will follow afterwards
  14. Two Packages, Day pass and Overnight camping pass
    1. Day Pass – Come for the event and leave on the midnight bus 800 AED.
    2. Overnight Camping: Spend the night in the desert (tent provided) -1200 AED

The Caracal Challenge Packages:

  1. Day Package – 800 AED includes transportation both ways, welcome pack and dinner.

  2. Camping Package – 1200 AED   includes transportation both ways, welcome pack and dinner, camping in a tent in the desert and breakfast - This is based on a shared tent. Each tent will have 2 people. There is a female section, a male section and a family section for the tents. 

Meeting point: Khalifa Park parking lot. 

Transportation provided: from Khalifa Park to Start point and from End point back to Khalifa park.

What do you need to bring (Recommendation)? (Day Pass Participants) 

  1. Hiking boots (Normal shoes are not recommend and are not comfortable or safe). 
  2. Headlight + Extra batteries
  3. Hat & light jacket
  4. Change of cloths (Extra t-shirt and extra pants/shorts)
  5. Sunglasses 
  6. Phone charger & camera (Dust protection is recommended). 

What do you need to bring (Recommendation)? (Overnight Participants) 

  1. Put all of your stuff in a small duffel bag (will be tagged with your name)
  2. Hiking boots (Normal shoes are not recommend and are not comfortable/safe). 
  3. Headlights + Extra batteries. 
  4. Hat & light jacket
  5. Change of cloths (Extra t-shirt and extra pants/shorts)
  6. Sunglasses 
  7. Phone charger & camera (Dust protection is recommended). 
  8. Sleeping bag and a pillow. 
  9. Toiletries/wet wipes & small personal towel.

Event Schedule

Friday:

12:00 PM: Participants gathering at  Khalifa park for a 12:30 PM Departure.
12:30 PM: Buses leave to Razeen – Gathering spot
2:00 PM: Buses arrives at desert location gathering spot.
2:00 PM: Registration, Orientation, Bags collection, socializing, music, chilling, snacks, food group photos.
3:30 PM: Welcome speech by keynote speaker and Husaak (Keynote speakers TBD later)
4:00 PM: Start of the challenge.
8:00 PM: Estimated first participant arrives at end location.
8:30 PM: Start camp fire
09:00 PM: Start the buffet.
11:00 PM: Estimated last participant arriving at end point. Have dinner
12:00 AM Event End – Day participants bus leaves.
12:00 AM After party starts –participants can go to their tent, Karak served around the camp fire till 3 AM.

Saturday:

7:00 AM: Wake participants up & gathering
7:30 AM: Breakfast in the desert.
9:00 AM: Buses leave.
